Not to sound like a nitpicker, but it is redundant to use the words ‘antiquated’ and ‘outaded’ in the same sentence (after all, this is a site about writing). I’m unsure what you mean by “punctuation placed outside of quotation marks would break off the machine.” That doesn’t make sense, but I assume you know what you are taking about. I’ll look it up. I think the correct response is to say that conventions differ in British and American publishing. One is not “right” and the other “wrong”. Anyway, thanks for the information.
